Our Story

In 2012, we began helping eCommerce merchants throughout the USA and Europe accept credit card payments. We found that our merchants—many who sold a variety of goods and services and utilized different shopping carts and payment gateways, would eventually experience chargebacks.

We quickly realized how unfair the chargeback system operates in favor of each consumer that pays by credit card—often resulting in merchant accounts closing due to excessive chargebacks, while other merchants would get a financial reserve imposed on them due to their chargeback ratios.

These same merchants experienced financial loss as well as the loss of their products shipped and sold due to chargebacks.

Merchants that came to us with high chargebacks would have a harder time getting a merchant account and would pay higher fees.

Our Research

We noticed that each chargeback had a reason code and a consumer message. Chargebacks would occur for a variety of reasons including but not limited to:

  • Item not as described
  • Item never arrived
  • Item damaged

But most of all, we found that, for many of our merchants, the reasons for chargebacks had to do with Fraud and/or Friendly Fraud—meaning that the reasons for the chargebacks often included statements such as:

  • It was not them who purchased the product
  • Someone stole their credit card information
  • They did not authorize the transaction

Our Goal

The fraudulent reason codes had to do with fraudsters taking advantage of the chargeback system. We wanted to protect legitimate eCommerce merchants from experiencing fraudulent chargebacks by providing ultimate fraud protection during the checkout process through solutions that enabled:

  • Little to no friction at checkout
  • Provide protection instantaneously
  • A simplified software integration process

The result was born in Website Elixir Checkout. We aim to make it as simple as possible to implement our technology by providing the necessary support and infrastructure to properly integrate — helping merchants reduce fraudulent chargebacks, product loss, and increase profitability.
